I have tried a few Lancome products from samples I receive in the mail or as gifts from beauty shops, but I don't really have the money to buy many of their skin care products. That's why I didn't get the chance to try their Resurface C At-Home Microdermabrasion system, even though I am very curious whether it works on my skin or not.
My friend Donna, on the other hand, is used to spending more money then me on cosmetics and has already bought the Lancome personal micro dermabrasion kit several times, because she likes the way it makes her skin look young and fresh.
The full name of this at-home derm abrasion kit is Resurface-C Microdermabrasion Skin Polishing and Radiance Renewing System with 20% Aluminum Oxide Crystals, 6% Physio-Polish Enhancer & Pure Vitamin C. Talk about a mouthful. It costs $85 and can be found online and in most beauty shops and drugstores.
The kit has two products: an aluminum oxide crystal polishing cream and a Vitamin C Radiance Renewing serum.
The instructions say to use the exfoliating cream 2-3 times per week and the Vitamin C serum every night for best results. Donna noticed that she had better results when using both products together 4 times a week, never on consecutive days. This is what she did:
Donna used the Lancome at home microderm abrasion kit for about 6 months before giving it up in favor of another expensive micro derm abrasion cream: Estee Lauder Idealist, her all time favorite cosmetic product. She believes Idealist is better than Resurface-C because it has better results and makes her skin smoother:
"The Resurface C microderma cream from Lancome had great results on my skin: after 3 uses, the fine lines around my mouth and eyes were less obvious and my pores were considerably smaller. Furthermore, my entire face had a healthy pink glow that always made my husband ask me what make-up I was wearing when in fact I didn't have anything on."
"I loved the resurfacing cream, it's effective without being harsh. On the other hand, I thought the Vitamin C serum was a bit too oily, especially in the summer days when the sebaceous glands seem to work overtime anyway."
Most online reviewers seem to confirm Donna's verdict about the Lancome kit: it is an expensive product with good results on aging dull skin. More than half of the users say the cream and the serum made their skin look younger, cleaner and more radiant.
Another thing that makes the Resurface C microdermabration kit so popular is that it's very gentle and doesn't irritate sensitive skin. On the other hand, some reviewers complain about the high price and the fact that the serum is a bit greasy for oily complexions.
Next, the most popular microdermabrasion kits compared.
A: Microdemabrasion is safe for young people of all skin types but most doctors recommend it for patients aged 14 and older, mainly because they want to make sure that all major hormonal changes are over and the results of the procedure are as good as they can be.
A: Both self and beauty salon micro derma brasion work on the same principle and have the same reported results: reduction of fine lines, superficial scars, age spots and acne scars. But self microderm abrasions procedures cannot offer the same effectiveness you get from beauty salon microdermabasion treatments on more severe skin imperfections.
A: No, if performed right, derma microabrasion does not darken the skin.
A: The OTC microdermibrasion cream from Neutrogena works for some people and doesn't work for others. There are many happy customers who say that Nutragena creams does make their face feel smother and look young. On the other hand, there are some unhappy people who say the kit is either too harsh, causing them skin irritation and breakouts, or not very effective in reducing superficial scars and fine wrinkles. The only way to find out if the kit is effective for you is to try to obtain a free sample and test the formula on your skin.
A: This procedure exfoliates the top layer of skin which consists of dead skin cells. Microabrasions system stimulates collagen production, essential to healthy skin and also evens out skin texture and tone.
A: Compared to other non-invasive procedures, specialist microdermabrasian is the least expensive skin rejuvenation procedure. For example, microderm abrasion kits cost between $15 and $200, depending on contents and brand. Kits that include a rotating hand-held device designed to massage the crystal cream onto your face are the most expensive (and the most effective). The price of a single microdermbrasion treatment at a beauty salon or spa varies between $75 and $200. One full face session at a surgeon or dermatologist office costs somewhere between $100 and $300, not including initial consultation fees (which may cost an additional $150). You may need an average of 9 treatments and 4 maintenance sessions for best results which makes a full microdermabration treatment cost around $1,600 per year.
A: Microdermation set stimulates collagen growth which is why it's effective on enlarged pores. Collagen production is stimulated through skin exfoliation. Furthermore, the vacuum function of most microderm devices sucks out hardened oil, dust and other dirt which may clog your pores. This way, the oil in the glands can again reach the surface of your skin and your pores can return to their natural shape and size.
A: If you have the full series of specialist microdermation treatments and then a maintenance session every 2-3 months, the results will last for as long as you have maintenance procedures.
A: Micodermabrasion pulverizes away the dead skin layer (the outermost layer) in order to even out skin texture and reduce superficial pimple scarring. More severe pimple scars requires more invasive non-surgical techniques, like deep chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing.
