Microdermx first caught my attention at the end of 2006 as one of the few 99% natural personal microderm abrasion kits. I am very curious to see whether it works on my skin, but I didn't have the time to try it yet. My friend Dominique has used it for a couple of months and she has a strong opinion about the way it works.

Dominique bought the Microdermx kit online from Nikkel Holistic Skincare, the company who produces it, for $75. The reason why she chose this system over many others is that she has very sensitive skin and Microdermx is one of the few abrading products that contain no synthetic fillers.
The kit has two products, both using natural ingredients like botanicals, anti-oxidants, nutrients, active enzymes and essential oils: Refinish is the aluminum oxide crystal cream, while Replenish is the follow-up moisturizing product.
Dominique used the Microdermx Refinish cream once a week during the first month and twice a week in the second month, and the Replenish cream every night before she went to bed. This is what she did:
A word of caution from Dominique: "Please be very careful, the crystals are quite fine and sometimes you won't feel them abrading your skin, but they are and if you overdo the massage, you will end up with scratched skin. It happened to me twice and it's not very pleasant."
The kit instructions say that people with normal, dry, oily or combination skin have to use Microdermx twice a week in the first 2 weeks and then increase frequency to three times a week for more dramatic results.
Nikkel Skincare advises consumers not to use any 'typical, commercial moisturizers' in the first 36 hours after applying the Refinish cream, because the skin is more sensitive after the exfoliation treatment and chemicals found in almost all commercially-available products can cause breakouts and irritations.
The only recommended moisturizer is (obviously) their Replenish cream, which contains only natural ingredients. Dominique took their recommendation and used no other commercial cosmetic product during the Microdermx micro dermabrasion treatment.
Dominique has been trying different skin care products for several years now and she thinks Microdermx is one of the best things she has ever treated her face with. "I have very sensitive skin; I get rashes, breakouts and blemishes from almost any cosmetic product I put on my face, be it liquid foundation or night moisturizer."
"I was very happy to discover Microdermx, it is one of the few products that caused no side effect on my skin. The Refinish cream exfoliates dead skin cells without being too harsh, while the Replenish formula is so light and protective that I loved putting it on my entire face every night before going to sleep. After using the Microdermx kit for one month, I noticed the lines around my mouth and on my forehead are less visible. A small sun spot on my cheek disappeared, and the pores on my nose look smaller."
Other people who have tried the Microdermx microdermabrasion kit and shared their experience online think that the kit is a good resurfacing product for aging skin. Most of them say the crystal cream leaves the skin smooth and even in tone and texture, while others talk about less visible superficial scars, fine lines and age spots.
On the other hand, some consumers are unhappy with the kit's price and the fact that the Replenish cream doesn't last very long if you use it every night, according to the instructions.
Bottom line, this is a great product for sensitive skin types, because it contains natural ingredients that exfoliate and moisturize the skin without irritating it.
Next, the most popular microdermabrasion kits compared.
A: Better-looking skin needs elasticity and density, both achievable through skin cell renewal. Microdermabration kit abrades the outermost skin layer and stimulates skin renewal. An effective skin renewal process results in increased elasticity and density. Moreover, the vacuum function of the microdermasion tool sucks up dirt and hardened oil to reveal an even skin texture and tone.
A: Yes, there is no reason not to have micro derma brasion on your neck. If you choose spa microdermal abrasion. the specialist who performs it will adjust the settings of the machine for back microdermabration product. If you decide to do the procedure on your own, be sure to search for a specially designed neck microdermabrasion product.
A: Glycolic acid is used as a light chemical peel. It removes the uppermost layer of skin. Light chemical peels and microdermabration are both non-invasive procedures that can also be performed at-home with special consumer kits. Neither has any major risks or side-effects and both have limited effectiveness. They can help diminish or even remove superficial scarring and wrinkles, age spots, stretch marks and uneven skin texture. For deeper skin imperfections, you may need a more invasive procedure.
A: There is no official contraindication regarding age for microabrasion patients, but it would be best to wait until you are 14 before you have it. If you have it earlier, the hormonal changes and the fact that your skin hasn't yet fully formed all of its recovering systems may affect the final outcome of the treatment.
A: By exfoliating the top layer of the skin, microbrasion kits cleans deep into the pore and removes excess oil and dirt which causes clogged pores. Most pores are unclogged while the more stubborn ones become less visible.
A: Dermatologists and patients alike agree that microderm has very few side effects, like temporary discoloration of the treated area, sun sensitivity, flaking and redness. These are not abnormal reactions, but you should discuss them with your doctor if they occur.
A: Micro abrasion is not recommended if you've had a chemical peel (glycolic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, TCA, Jessner or any other kind of peel) in the last 14 days because the two exfoliating procedures combined are too aggressive and might affect your skin's ability to recover. This applies to home set and doctor-performed treatment.
A: Microdermoabrasion pulverizes away the dead skin layer (the outermost layer) in order to even out skin texture and reduce superficial scars. Deeper scarring needs more invasive non-surgical techniques, like deep chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing.
A: Self micoderm abrasion tool is appropriate for all skin colors (including African American skin ) because this procedure sandblasts only the outermost skin layer which is made of dead skin cells. There's no damage to live tissue which could cause scarring or severe irritation. The exfoliation process involved in specialist microderm abrasions helps the skin renew itself quicker and more effectively.
A: You can safely have microdermibrasion on skin with tattoos with no risk or side effects. This skin rejuvenation procedure is too mild to affect tattoos.
